Presentation Title: Optimizing Seismic Data Acquisition for Unconventional Plays: From Reservoir Characterization Objectives to Field Execution

  1. Objective-Driven Acquisition Design
Aligning seismic survey design with reservoir characterization goals, geological settings, and modern processing capabilities to ensure fit-for-purpose data from the outset.
  2. Leveraging Legacy/Test Data for Design Optimization
Analyzing existing datasets and field test data —from raw gathers to final images—to derive optimal acquisition parameters and reduce uncertainty in new surveys.
  3. Integrated Resource Optimization via Scenario Simulation
Simulating multiple operational scenarios to optimize field resource utilization across the full project lifecycle, not just the acquisition phase.
  4. Next-Generation Feasible Land Acquisition Designs
Presenting innovative, optimized land acquisition geometries that were previously impractical, enabled by advances in modeling, logistics, and technology.

Speaker: Bahaa Soliman, SLB

Bahaa is a senior geophysical engineer with more than 18 years of experience in land seismic acquisition, processing, and reservoir characterization. He graduated from Suez Canal University in 2006 with a degree in Geological and Geophysical Engineering from Faculty of Petroleum Engineering and later earned a master’s in Reservoir Characterization in 2018.

He began his career with SLB in 2007 as a Seismic Acquisition Field Engineer and rose to Technical Supervisor, leading survey and infield processing teams for over a decade. He then moved to seismic data processing, depth imaging, and reservoir characterization, focusing on AVO and AVAZ inversion.

Today, Bahaa serves as Land Operations Manager, overseeing seismic and non-seismic data acquisition across the U.S. land region and providing global technical support for land seismic operations.
